Moringa magic.
Moringa Miracle Plant
Moringa oleifera is a plant native to northern India that can also grow in other tropical and subtropical places, like Asia and Africa. Folk medicine as well as the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans have used the leaves, flowers, seeds, and roots of this plant for centuries.
It has been used as a remedy for such conditions as: diabetes, long-lasting inflammation, bacterial, viral, and fungal infections, heart health, joint pain, erectile dysfunction, infertility and cancer.
Moringa has many important vitamins and minerals. The leaves have about as much potassium as a banana, and about the same amount of vitamin C as an orange. It also has calcium, protein, iron, and amino acids, which help your body heal and build muscle.
It’s also packed with antioxidants, substances that can protect cells from damage and may boost your immune system. There’s some evidence that some of these antioxidants can also lower blood pressure and reduce fat in the blood and body.
So far, much of the research on moringa has used animals as test subjects. We don’t know if the results would be the same with humans. Researchers are working to find out exactly how extracts from this tree affect people, but early studies show it may help with:
Rheumatoid arthritis: Moringa leaf extract may lower fluid swelling, redness, and pain.
Diabetes: Several early studies show that insulin-like proteins found in moringa may help lower blood sugar. Plant chemicals found in the leaves might help the body process sugar better, and it may affect how the body releases insulin.
In human studies, moringa powder reduced blood glucose levels in diabetic patients by a significant amount.
Cancer: In lab tests, leaf extracts slowed the growth of pancreatic cancer cells and helped chemotherapy work better. Other lab studies show that moringa leaves, bark, and roots all have anti-cancer effects that might lead to new drugs.
Bioactive compounds, including vitamins, flavonoids, alkaloids, and other vital dietary components, can be found in significant amounts in moringa powder.
These compounds are beneficial in treating chronic conditions like high blood pressure (which can lead to a number of heart and other conditions), diabetes, insulin resistance, non-alcoholic liver disease, cancer, and overall inflammation.
Approximately 1 million women each year are diagnosed with benign breast disease, putting them at a higher risk of developing breast cancer. Research shows these women may benefit from anti-inflammatory treatment. Taking an anti-inflammatory such as moringa powder on a regular basis has shown to offer women greater protection from breast cancer.
Alleviating Erectile Dysfunction: Moringa leaves contain beneficial plant compounds called polyphenols, which may enhance blood flow by increasing nitric oxide production and decreasing blood pressure.
What’s more, studies in rats have shown that extract from the plant’s leaves and seeds inhibit key enzymes linked to ED that increase blood pressure and decrease nitric oxide production.
One study also demonstrated that a moringa seed extract relaxed the smooth muscle in the penis of healthy rats, allowing for more blood flow to the area. The extract also alleviated ED in rats with diabetes.
Moringa leaves and seeds are excellent sources of antioxidants, which may help combat oxidative damage that can interfere with sperm production or damage sperm DNA.
Studies in rabbits have shown that leaf powder from the plant significantly improved semen volume, as well as sperm count and motility.
Studies in rats have further demonstrated that the antioxidant properties of moringa leaf extract significantly increased sperm count in cases of induced undescended testicles.
What’s more, studies in rats and rabbits have shown that this leaf extract may prevent the loss of sperm caused by excessive heat, chemotherapy, or electromagnetic rays emitted from cell phones.
While these results are promising, studies in humans are needed before conclusions can be made on the effectiveness of moringa for improving male fertility.
Memory: Some experts think the antioxidants and other health-promoting plant chemicals may heal stress and inflammation in the brain.
Scientists are also trying to see if it might help with:
Cholesterol, arthritis, high blood pressure, liver damage caused by medicines, stomach ulcers, asthma, wound healing, ulcerative colitis, diarrhoea, anemia, and weight loss.
